JIC Venture Growth Investments has acquired shares in Orbital Lasers Co., Ltd. (Orbital Lasers) through its JIC Venture Growth Fund 2.

Orbital Lasers is a startup developing space laser technologies that deliver world-leading levels of power, compactness, and efficiency. These technologies were established through joint research with RIKEN. Building on these technologies, the company is developing satellite LiDAR and space debris removal businesses. Centered on laser light source technologies capable of stable operation in harsh space environments and precision beam control technologies, Orbital Lasers is advancing research and development with a view toward expanding into a wide range of satellite systems.

This investment supports an advanced technology domain, compact and high-efficiency space laser technologies, by enabling expansion from core component technologies to integrated systems and ultimately satellite development. Through this approach, the investment aims to strengthen Japan’s technological competitiveness in the space industry. Such initiatives are expected to contribute to the advancement of space infrastructure and the realization of sustainable space utilization.

With this funding, Orbital Lasers will accelerate the transition toward the commercialization phase of its business. The company will further advance laser transmission technologies for space applications, while establishing high-resolution and high-sensitivity receiver technologies as well as satellite bus technologies optimized for mission requirements. By leveraging laser technologies as a foundation and enhancing the overall maturity of satellite systems, Orbital Lasers aims to unlock new possibilities for space utilization.
