JIC Venture Growth Investments Inc. (JIC VGI), the manager of JICVGI Opportunity Fund No.1 Investment Limited Partnership (OPF1), today announced that OPF1 has executed a stock subscription agreement to invest in CREAL Inc. (CREAL).
Established in September 2023, OPF1 is managed by JIC VGI as its General Partner. The fund’s strategy focuses on providing capital for direct secondary transactions and investments in listed startups. OPF1 is part of Japan Investment Corporation (JIC)’s initiatives under the government’s Startup Development Five-Year Plan. The fund aims to accelerate the growth trajectory of startups, promote the creation of unicorns, and serve as a platform to support the sustainable and exponential growth of promising listed startups. Additionally, OPF1 aims to create successful investment precedents in the direct secondary and aftermarket areas, stimulating private investment flows, revitalizing the domestic secondary and growth markets, and contributing to the overall strengthening and expansion of Japan’s startup ecosystem. This investment marks OPF1’s sixth investment under its aftermarket strategy.
CREAL’s mission is “Changing Real Estate Investment, Changing Society.” The company’s core business is real estate crowdfunding, through which it promotes the digital transformation of real estate investment processes and develops investment platforms. By leveraging its in-house capabilities that broadly cover the real estate investment value chain—including property development, management, and value enhancement—CREAL provides investment management functions not only to individual investors but also to institutional investors, thereby building a broad investor base. In addition to its existing businesses, CREAL plans to expand into new areas such as real estate security tokens and other alternative investment domains, aiming for further growth as an alternative investment platform.
Through this investment, OPF1 aims to support CREAL’s growth strategy and contribute to the company’s sustainable and significant expansion. Furthermore, as Japan has developed the Act on Specified Joint Real Estate Ventures to improve real estate trading and promote capital inflow into small and regional properties, there remains a shortage of funding for small and medium-sized real estate. By supporting CREAL, a key player in promoting capital supply, OPF1 also seeks to contribute to the development of sustainable social infrastructure and the transition to a stock-based society.
The funds raised by CREAL through this investment are intended to be used for: (1) system development to renew existing processes and expand into new areas such as security tokens; (2) obtaining licenses and establishing systems for business expansion; and (3) strengthening the platform for its real estate crowdfunding business.
